Intermedia has started releasing its profiles of the communications environment in select countries on a website called AudienceScapes. At present it has the following:
- Sierra Leone
- Urban Nicaragua
- Urban Guatemala
- Urban Peru
- Urban Colombia
- It promises Guinea, Liberia and Chad soon.
Its great to have this resource free and easily accessible. However, I have my concerns about the accuracy of some of the detail – or at least how up to date it is. For Pakistan it reports that the only news in Pashto is from Radio Khyber (an Intermedia / Internews project). I know from my own research there last year that there are number of radio stations supported by the FATA Secretariat that broadcasts news in Pashto.
It will be interesting to see how often the data is updated – especially in the rapidly changing telecommunications field.
How useful is dated data?
